Plumbing That Works With the Rest of Your Home

Plumbing is one of those parts of a property that is often only noticed when something stops working — but good plumbing is about much more than repairing a leak.

Pipe routes, water pressure, drainage, fixture positions and access for future maintenance can all affect how successfully a kitchen, bathroom, utility room or wider renovation works.

Calico provides plumbing services for individual requirements as well as coordinating plumbing with the other trades involved in extensions, conversions and complete property renovations.

Plan Before You Close the Walls

Good Plumbing Starts Long Before the Taps Go On

On a renovation, much of the important plumbing work eventually disappears behind walls, beneath floors or inside cabinets.

That makes the planning stage particularly important. Pipe routes, wastes, fixture positions and access should all be considered before walls are plastered, floors are finished and cabinetry is installed.

Getting those decisions right early can produce a cleaner installation and avoid unnecessary alterations later in the project.

Think Beyond the Pipe

Every Fixture Has to Work With the Room Around It

Moving a basin, adding a shower or creating a new utility room is not simply a matter of connecting two pipes. The existing property and everything being built around the plumbing need to be considered.

Water Supply

The existing supply and available pressure can influence the suitability and performance of different fixtures.

Waste & Drainage

Wastewater needs an appropriate route with suitable falls and connections to the property's drainage system.

Pipe Routes

Good planning can keep pipework discreet while still considering practical access and maintenance.

Room Layout

The position of baths, showers, sinks and appliances needs to work with doors, cabinetry and how the room is actually used.

Future Access

Valves, traps and serviceable components should not become unnecessarily inaccessible once the room is finished.

Other Trades

Plumbing needs to be coordinated with electrical work, carpentry, plastering, tiling and cabinetry.

Our Approach

From Pipework to Final Connection

For larger projects, plumbing is planned around both the existing services and the finished room rather than being treated as an isolated stage.

01

Assess

We look at the existing plumbing, proposed layout and what the new installation needs to achieve.

02

Plan

Pipe routes, wastes, fixtures and their relationship with the surrounding building work are considered.

03

First Fix

Required pipework and concealed services are installed before walls, floors and other finished surfaces are completed.

04

Fit & Finish

Fixtures are installed and connected as the room reaches the appropriate stage of the project.

Transformation

Plumbing Can Completely Change How a Room Is Used

Moving services can open up possibilities that the original layout did not allow, particularly when kitchens, bathrooms and utility spaces are being completely redesigned.

Plumbing Is About More Than Bathrooms

Water and drainage services appear throughout modern homes, and changes to one part of the property can often affect another.

Bathrooms Supply and waste plumbing for baths, showers, basins, toilets and other bathroom fixtures.
Kitchens Plumbing for sinks, taps, dishwashers and other water-connected kitchen appliances.
Utility Rooms Create practical connections for sinks, washing machines and other utility-room requirements.
Cloakrooms & WCs Add or renovate smaller washrooms where suitable water and waste connections can be provided.
Heating Radiators and associated heating pipework can be coordinated with our dedicated heating services.
Extensions & Conversions Extend or alter services where completely new rooms are being created within the property.

Why Calico?

One Project Instead of a Collection of Separate Trades

Plumbing rarely exists in isolation during a renovation. Moving a basin may affect cabinetry. A new shower involves plumbing, waterproofing and tiling. New pipework may require walls to be opened and then plastered and decorated.

When those stages are treated separately, the homeowner can end up trying to coordinate several different trades and decide who needs to arrive next.

Calico can manage the wider project, allowing the plumbing to be planned alongside the carpentry, electrical work, plastering, tiling and finishing required around it.

Questions & Answers

Plumbing Services FAQs

Do you undertake smaller plumbing jobs?

Yes. Depending on the nature of the work, we can discuss individual plumbing requirements as well as plumbing that forms part of a larger Calico project.

Can you repair leaking pipework?

Yes. The source and condition of the affected pipework first needs to be identified so that the appropriate repair or replacement can be considered.

Can you replace taps?

Yes. Taps and associated plumbing can be replaced where the existing connections and installation allow.

Can you install toilets and basins?

Yes. Toilets, basins and associated supply and waste plumbing can be installed as part of individual works or complete bathroom and cloakroom projects.

Can you move plumbing to a different part of a room?

Often, yes. The feasibility depends on the existing water supplies, waste routes, floor and wall construction and the proposed new position.

Can you install plumbing for a new kitchen?

Yes. We can coordinate sink, tap, dishwasher and other plumbing requirements with the wider kitchen installation.

Can you install plumbing for a new bathroom?

Yes. Bathroom plumbing can be planned alongside the sanitaryware, shower, bath, tiling, electrical work and other elements of the renovation.

Can you move or replace radiators?

Radiators and associated heating pipework can be altered or replaced where appropriate. More extensive heating work can be considered through our dedicated Heating Systems service.

Can you add plumbing to an extension?

Yes. Plumbing can be incorporated into extension projects where kitchens, utility rooms, bathrooms, cloakrooms or other water-connected spaces are being created.

Do you make good the walls after plumbing work?

Yes, where this forms part of the agreed project. One advantage of using Calico for wider renovation work is that plumbing can be coordinated with carpentry, plastering, tiling and decorating rather than leaving you to arrange each stage separately.
